Shreyas Iyer delivered a sensational performance in Lucknow by smashing an unbeaten 102 off just 43 deliveries against the West Indies.
With this brilliant knock, the right-hander etched his name in the record books by becoming the first Indian captain to score a T20I century while chasing.
He surpassed Virat Kohli’s previous milestone of 94 runs, which stood as the highest score by an Indian skipper in the format.
Iyer is now only the third Indian captain overall to register a hundred in international T20 cricket.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Babar Azam continues to hold the global record as the highest T20I century-maker among captains with 122 runs.
