Shubman Gill Set to Boost Punjab in Ranji Trophy Clash Against Chhattisgarh
India Test captain Shubman Gill joins Punjab for their Ranji Trophy Elite Group B second-round match against Chhattisgarh, providing crucial red-ball practice ahead of the New Zealand tour.

The Punjab Cricket Association New Chandigarh Stadium will take centre stage on Sunday as India captain Shubman Gill returns to domestic duties for Punjab’s Ranji Trophy Elite Group B second-round fixture against Chhattisgarh.
Gill’s inclusion, alongside opener Prabhsimran Singh, significantly bolsters Punjab’s batting line-up as the hosts target their maiden outright victory of the campaign.
While former India Under-19 captain Uday Saharan will captain the team, Gill is poised to be the major drawcard after missing the opening-round match against Assam due to national commitments.
The stylish right-hander arrives in red-ball action following a stellar run in India's 2-1 ODI series triumph over the West Indies, where he plundered 334 runs at an astronomical average of 167 to claim the Player of the Series accolade.
Punjab head coach Amit Uniyal emphasized that Gill remains deeply invested in the state side's fortunes across all formats, particularly in first-class cricket.
“Shubman is very keen on Punjab doing well this season in all formats, especially red-ball cricket. He keeps track of the matches and developments and wants to contribute whenever he turns up for the team. He is also closely monitoring the progress of Punjab players,” Uniyal stated.
Punjab's bowling attack will be spearheaded by experienced fast bowler Umesh Yadav, who claimed seven wickets on debut against Assam, alongside paceman Gurnoor and spinners Emanjot Chahal and Harpreet Brar.
With temperatures dropping and familiar home conditions awaiting, Punjab will look to convert their encouraging white-form form into multi-day success as they aim to dominate Chhattisgarh.
