Nigeria's rising stars scripted a landmark moment in their nation's sporting history by edging out Zimbabwe in a nerve-shredding finish to secure qualification for the upcoming ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup.
The dramatic victory seals Nigeria's spot in the marquee global tournament co-hosted by Bangladesh and Nepal, making them only the second African nation alongside automatically qualified South Africa to reach the showpiece event.
Battling immense stakes in the regional qualifier, Nigeria produced a courageous performance with both bat and ball to hold off a determined Zimbabwean side in a final-over finish.
Entering the regional event as heavy favorites, Zimbabwe looked set to control the contest before Nigeria's disciplined bowling attack tightened the screws during the pivotal middle and death overs.
Tight spells and swift fielding under pressure forced critical mistakes from the Zimbabwean batter lineup, swinging the narrative back in favor of the West African outfit.
Scenes of unbridled jubilation erupted on the field as Nigeria completed the winning moment, celebrating a breakthrough success that highlights the growing strength of Associate cricket across the continent.
This landmark qualification marks Nigeria's second appearance in an ICC Under-19 World Cup event across formats, following their men's team's historic debut at the 2020 showpiece in South Africa.
With their spot now officially locked in for the tournament in South Asia, Nigeria will pivot toward intense preparations as they get ready to test themselves against the world's best on the global stage.
