Dramatic collapse costs Bangladesh U-19s against Afghanistan

Bangladesh U-19 team suffered their first defeat in the ongoing four-match Youth One-Day International series after losing to Afghanistan by 43 runs at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman.

Chasing a target of 238, Bangladesh were cruising comfortably at 157 for two in the 27th over. Abdullah Al Muhi and Kawser Ahmed anchored the innings solidly, both bringing up well-compiled half-centuries with scores of 61 and 64 respectively.

However, a stunning and dramatic collapse ripped through the batting line-up as the team lost their last eight wickets for just 37 runs. The innings folded entirely at 194 in 38.2 overs, handing the opposition an unexpected lifeline.

Earlier in the match, pacer Al Amin Hossen delivered a phenomenal bowling performance to dismantle the opposition. His impressive six-wicket haul restricted Afghanistan to 237 before they were bowled out in the final over.

Afghanistan had faced their own middle-order vulnerabilities earlier after reaching 155 for three. Subhan Zakhail top-scored with 81 off 95 balls, while Shah Faisal Rahimi contributed 80 off 111 deliveries, adding 105 runs for the fourth wicket.

Despite that substantial partnership, Afghanistan also stumbled late in their innings by losing their last seven wickets for 82 runs. That bowling effort had initially left Bangladesh with a very manageable target to pursue.

Reflecting on the series progression, Bangladesh had previously clinched the opening match by 33 runs before sealing a thrilling victory in the second game via a super over.

The fourth and final fixture, which will ultimately decide the winner of the series, is scheduled to take place at the same venue on Friday.
