Renshaw 190 puts Australia on top against South Africa
Matt Renshaw scores an epic 190 to lift Australia to 390 all out against South Africa, ending a wait of over nine years for his next Test century.

Matt Renshaw delivered a career-best 190 from 397 balls in Durban, lifting Australia to 390 all out against South Africa on day two. The left-hander ground out his first Test century in more than nine years and 280 days, emphatically pushing his case for a regular spot.
This high-profile series serves as a repeat of last year's World Test Championship final won by the Proteas. It also marks the third in a possible 21 Tests for Australia before the end of the Ashes next summer.
Australia initially struggled on day one amid questions over their ageing top order, slipping to 124-6. Renshaw's marathon innings anchored the rescue effort through immense concentration and disciplined stroke-play.
Former Australia batter Simon Katich praised the knock on SEN Radio, stating, "I think that is what this team has needed and been crying out for."
Reflecting on his journey, Renshaw noted his previous struggles after averaging 19.41 across 10 Tests following his debut in 2017. "A few years out of the team, I had the opportunity in 2023, you think you're never going to get the opportunity again," he said.
Renshaw extended partnerships with captain Pat Cummins for 86 and an impressive 134-run stand with number 10 Nathan Lyon. He shielded Lyon from Anrich Nortje's pace before finally falling in the first over after tea.
In reply, South Africa reached 27-1 before bad light halted play, losing opener Ryan Rickelton for a duck to Josh Hazlewood. Australia now holds a commanding position on a pitch expected to offer turn later in the match.
With regular number five Cameron Green sidelined and opening partner Nic Maddinson falling for a duck, questions remain over Australia's top-order structure. Renshaw admitted he leaves tactical decisions to the management, adding, "No idea. That's well above my pay grade. Whatever is the best for the team is the one for me. I am not too fussed."
