New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner acknowledged his team was in a very good position during the clash against India.

However, costly errors in the field allowed the opposition to recover from a precarious 70 for 5.

Santner pointed out that fielding lapses proved decisive in the outcome of the game.

The target of 181 was eventually chased down by India after the lower-order partnership capitalized on the let-offs.

Reflecting on the missed opportunities, the New Zealand skipper stressed that small margins often dictate the flow of limited-overs fixtures.

'The small stuff can change games quickly,' Santner stated, underlining the importance of execution under pressure.

Despite building an early advantage with the ball, the fielding unit failed to maintain the required standards.

The touring side will now look to address these defensive shortcomings ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
