In a surprising development, Bangladesh batting coach Mohammad Ashraful was removed from his position by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Saturday.

Both Ashraful and a BCB official confirmed the development to media outlets, signaling an abrupt end to his stint in the national team coaching setup.

“Yes, I have been removed from this position,” Ashraful said, adding that BCB cricket operations in-charge Shahriar Nafees had informed him of the decision in the evening.

Earlier on Saturday morning, Ashraful was seen working with the players during an optional practice session at the National Cricket Academy Ground ahead of the first Test against West Indies.

BCB media committee chairman Asif Rabbani also confirmed the decision, noting that Ashraful would no longer be part of the national team setup.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Salahuddin is set to oversee the batting department during the upcoming two-Test series against West Indies, which begins in Mirpur on October 28.
