The International Cricket Council has clamped down heavily on Pakistan, docking 11 crucial World Test Championship points following their third Test against England at Edgbaston. The penalty deals a massive blow to their campaign in the ongoing cycle.

Alongside the severe point deduction, ICC match referees hit the visiting squad with substantial match fee fines. The double sanction compounds the mounting troubles for a side that has struggled for consistency on overseas tours.

The governing body took strict action after Pakistan fell significantly behind the required over-rate during the series finale in Birmingham. Officiating umpires reported the breach after the match concluded, leaving match officials with little option but to apply maximum sanctions.

Under ICC code of conduct regulations, teams are penalized one WTC point for every over they fall short of the target time, alongside financial penalties scaled to the severity of the delay. Falling 11 overs behind represents one of the steepest pace-of-play penalties handed out in recent Test history.

The deduction severely damages Pakistan's prospects of contending for a place in the World Test Championship final. Having already suffered on-field setbacks during the series, losing equivalent to nearly a full Test victory's worth of points pushes them further down the standings ladder.

Former captain Babar Azam and the team management faced mounting criticism for their on-field time management throughout the Edgbaston fixture. Prolonged field adjustments and frequent bowling changes contributed directly to the mounting delays.

Slow over-rates have emerged as a recurring headache for Asian sides operating in English conditions, where seamers often require longer run-up setups and tactical deliberations. However, the ICC's uncompromising stance serves as a stern reminder that global playing conditions must be respected regardless of venue.

With their WTC mathematical calculations now significantly disrupted, Pakistan must quickly overhaul their match logistics and operational discipline ahead of their upcoming Test commitments.
