New Zealand batter Mark Chapman has opted out of a full-time central contract, switching to a casual arrangement with New Zealand Cricket to pave the way for his participation in Australia's Big Bash League.

The 30-year-old middle-order specialist remains fully committed to international selection for the upcoming white-ball tour of India in November. However, the contractual adjustment grants him the freedom to honor his BBL commitments later in the Australian summer.

Chapman becomes the latest Black Caps international to seek greater flexibility amid the expanding global franchise calendar, following similar moves by senior teammates looking to balance national duty with lucrative overseas leagues.

To fill the vacancy created on the national contract list, New Zealand Cricket has promoted fast bowler Matt Fisher to a full-time central contract for the first time.

Fisher earns his national upgrade after consistently impressing selectors with his bowling performances and endurance across multiple formats in domestic and development setups.

New Zealand Cricket reiterated its stance on working constructively with players navigating the shifting demands of modern professional cricket, ensuring top performers remain accessible for key international assignments.

Chapman’s flexibility will allow him to turn out for New Zealand against India in crucial limited-overs fixtures before transitioning directly to the high-tempo environment of the Big Bash.

With major ICC tournaments on the horizon, maintaining a strong, versatile squad depth remains a priority for New Zealand as they manage player workloads alongside franchise availability.
