Pat Cummins doubts it will matter how the Australians approach Kagiso Rabada in his return to Test cricket in Gqeberha, given the sight of the Baggy Green is enough to inspire the Protea superstar.

Eight years after the infamous shoulder-bump incident with Steve Smith during the Sandpapergate series, Rabada is back and eager to help the World Test Champions fight back.

Cummins acknowledged that while Rabada has not played much recently, the experienced fast bowler always rises to the occasion against Australia.

Rabada admitted he has no time to ease back into the format following South Africa's defeat in the first Test, noting that sport always carries an element of mystery.

Reflecting on his past altercation with Smith, Rabada described it as a heat-of-the-moment reaction driven by adrenaline and elite competition.

Both teams have delayed confirming their starting XIs due to weather concerns and pitch conditions ahead of Sunday's match.

Cummins hinted that Matthew Renshaw is likely to retain his position at number five in the batting order.

The Australian camp continues to evaluate its bowling combination, weighing the inclusion of specialist options alongside veteran spinner Nathan Lyon.
