England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been formally charged with improper conduct by the Cricket Regulator. The charge stems from his arrest on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly during a night out with Durham teammates in Derby back in August.

Derbyshire police investigated subsequent allegations of assault before closing the case without pressing charges a fortnight ago. However, the Regulator proceeded with its own investigation and referred the matter to the independent Cricket Discipline Committee.

The 31-year-old will now face a disciplinary hearing in front of the independent panel over the coming weeks. Potential sanctions available to the committee include a formal warning, suspension, and financial penalties.

The ongoing proceedings are unlikely to conclude before head coach Stephen Fleming names the squad for the upcoming three-Test tour of South Africa in December. Carse currently remains available for international selection despite missing several series since his arrest.

A statement from the Cricket Regulator confirmed the breach of regulation 3.2 regarding actions prejudicial to the interests of the game. Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board stated they are aware of the decision and are awaiting the outcome of the independent process.
