Tagenarine Chanderpaul struck his third Test half-century before falling for 56 off 184 balls as West Indies reached 179 for five in 66 overs on the third morning of the first Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.

The son of former West Indies batter Shivnarine Chanderpaul, renowned for his gritty batting, Tagenarine brought up his third fifty in 30 innings since making his Test debut in 2022. He shared a 65-run fifth-wicket stand with Justin Greaves, striking six fours and a maximum.

Shoriful Islam ended the partnership by having the left-hander caught by Najmul Hossain Shanto at second slip.

Bangladesh, who posted 272 in their first innings, had fought back on the second afternoon through Taijul Islam, who removed Kavem Hodge and Amir Jangoo in the same over. The visitors resumed day's proceedings on 134 for four, still trailing by 93 runs.
