Yorkshire Sign Moeen Ali: Former England Star Reverses Domestic Retirement
Former England star Moeen Ali stuns fans by reversing retirement to sign for Yorkshire for the T20 Blast, eyeing an elusive title.

In a stunning reversal, former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has come out of domestic retirement to sign for Yorkshire for the upcoming T20 Blast season.
The 38-year-old, who quit the English domestic circuit last summer to bypass strict No-Objection Certificate (NOC) rules, will now make Headingley his home in a bid to help the White Rose county claim their elusive first Blast title.
Moeen, who retired from international cricket in September 2024, originally stepped away from the county game mid-season last year to play for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League and Global Super League.
The move was a strategic workaround to the ECB’s policy on overseas franchise participation. However, in a surprise U-turn, he has committed to Yorkshire and is also set to register for The Hundred auction.
The move sets up a mouth-watering reunion with close friend and fellow World Cup winner Adil Rashid, as well as Jonny Bairstow. Yorkshire, who finished a disappointing eighth in the North Group last year, will hope Moeen’s vast experience can turn their fortunes around.
"I’m delighted to be joining Yorkshire for the Blast. It’s a huge club with a proud history, but what really appeals to me is where the team is heading," Moeen said. "I’ve always loved playing at Headingley... This feels like a fresh challenge and I’m arriving hungry for it."
Moeen has had a busy winter on the global circuit, featuring in leagues across Canada, Abu Dhabi, the UAE, and Bangladesh, with a stint in the Pakistan Super League still to come. He joins a revamped Yorkshire squad that has also signed Australians Sam Whiteman and Andrew Tye, alongside overseas stars Naveen-ul-Haq and Logan van Beek, following the departures of Dawid Malan and Jordan Thompson.
