In a major blow to the USA cricket team just ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup, key batter Aaron Jones has been provisionally suspended from all cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following allegations of corruption. He has been charged with five breaches of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

The 31-year-old cricketer was currently in Sri Lanka with the national squad, where an 18-member training camp is underway ahead of the upcoming 2026 T20 World Cup starting next month. The final 15-member World Cup squad was due to be selected from this camp, but the suspension effectively ends Jones' hopes of playing in the tournament. The ICC has given him 14 days to respond to the charges.

An ICC release stated that the charges against Jones primarily stem from the 'BIM-10' tournament held in Barbados during the 2023-24 season, which was sanctioned by Cricket West Indies (CWI). However, he has also been accused of involvement in fixing international matches.

The allegations include direct involvement in match-fixing, soliciting or encouraging other players, failing to disclose corrupt approaches to the Anti-Corruption Unit, and failing to cooperate with the investigation. The ICC further stated that this action is part of a broader ongoing investigation, and charges against several other cricketers could follow.

Since making his international debut in 2019, Jones has represented the USA in 52 ODIs and 48 T20Is. He has also featured in major franchise leagues including the CPL, MLC, and BPL. Losing one of their most experienced campaigners represents a severe setback for the USA ahead of the marquee tournament.
