Persistent rain forced the abandonment of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 group-stage match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at the R. Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo on Saturday, with both teams sharing a point each.
The game was the last group fixture for both sides, neither of whom were in contention for the semi-finals. The result left Pakistan winless in the tournament, finishing with three points — all from washouts — while Sri Lanka ended with five points, having registered one win from seven matches.
Sri Lanka had won the toss and opted to bowl first, but only 4.2 overs were possible before rain returned, halting Pakistan at 18 without loss. Earlier, a delayed start due to morning showers had already reduced the contest to 34 overs per side, with a seven-over powerplay.
As conditions worsened and no improvement followed, match officials called off the game in the afternoon, marking the fifth rain-affected fixture of the tournament.
Both teams made changes to their playing XIs ahead of the match: Dewmi Vihanga came in for Udeshika Prabodhani in the Sri Lankan lineup, while Pakistan included Eyman Fatima and Syeda Aroob Shah for their final outing.
Sri Lanka’s only victory of the tournament came against Bangladesh in Navi Mumbai earlier in the group stage, while Pakistan failed to secure a single win, their campaign repeatedly disrupted by rain.
With both sides already eliminated, Saturday’s washout served as a quiet end to their World Cup journeys. Sri Lanka finish above Pakistan in the group standings, while Pakistan return home having endured a frustrating campaign shaped as much by the weather as by their performances.
The knockout stage of the Women’s World Cup 2025 will continue next week, with India, Australia, England, and South Africa advancing to the semi-finals.
