Williamson to Miss West Indies ODIs as Henry Returns to New Zealand Squad
Williamson misses NZ's ODI squad against West Indies for Test focus; Santner captains as Henry returns, building depth for the Champions Trophy.
New Zealand’s Kane Williamson will miss the upcoming three-match home ODI series against the West Indies as he focuses on the Test series later this month, while fast bowler Matt Henry makes a return from injury.
Mitchell Santner will continue as captain for the ODIs starting November 16 in Christchurch. The squad also includes Michael Bracewell, Rachin Ravindra and Tom Latham, with pacer Blair Tickner retaining his place after impressive performances against England. Coach Rob Walter praised Tickner’s consistency and said the series offered a chance to build depth ahead of next year’s Champions Trophy.
“The West Indies are always dangerous, with players who can change games in any format,” he said. New Zealand will be without several injured players, including Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson and Glenn Phillips. The three ODIs will be played in Christchurch, Napier and Hamilton.
