India have recalled wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for the upcoming two-match home Test series against South Africa, marking his return to red-ball cricket after a lengthy injury layoff.
Pant, named vice-captain, will support new Test skipper Shubman Gill in a 15-member squad that also includes seniors Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj. The selectors have added young batters Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal, along with all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Pant last played a Test earlier this year before missing the West Indies series due to a foot injury. Pacer Akash Deep replaces Prasidh Krishna in the lineup.
India, who drew their previous World Test Championship series in England, will host South Africa in Kolkata from November 14 and in Guwahati from November 22.
