Shanto calls for better wicket adaptability after Afghanistan draw
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto urged his bowlers to learn how to create more chances on flat wickets after a dramatic draw against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi.

Bangladesh had to settle for a frustrating draw in their one-off Test against Afghanistan after the hosts produced a brilliant batting display at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Resuming the final day at 132 for three while chasing a mammoth target of 479, Afghanistan survived 92 overs to finish safely.
Sediqullah Atal notched a century while the tailenders put up stubborn resistance, including an unbeaten 49 from Qais Ahmad. Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto admitted that fielding errors allowed Afghanistan to escape with a draw, with just two wickets remaining.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Shanto stated that he was not frustrated by the bowling unit's inability to wrap up the innings in one-and-a-half days across 142 overs, but emphasized a crucial learning curve. I think the bowlers need to learn how to create more opportunities on these types of wickets if such conditions come up in the future, Shanto said.
The Tigers struggled to break through on a placid fifth-day track, placing their spin attack under heavy scrutiny after Litton Das had earlier backed them to make a difference. Shanto acknowledged the unique challenge posed by the slow surface and the physical toll of a five-day contest.
I agree that we made mistakes since in these kinds of conditions, opportunities are hard to come by, Shanto added, explaining that matches rarely go the full distance for them. How to stay in the game for long time and taking opportunities even when tired or bowling well even when we are tired, these experiences will help.
Looking back at the match, Hasan Mahmud made history in the first innings by claiming a hattrick, becoming the first Bangladesh pacer to achieve the feat in Tests while combining with Ebadot Hossain to take nine wickets. Despite off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissing Yamin Ahmadzai late in the final session, the victory ultimately slipped away.
Bangladesh will now shift their focus to a tri-nation ODI series in the UAE featuring Zimbabwe and Afghanistan, starting on October 17. Following that, they face a quick turnaround for a two-match Test series at home against the West Indies beginning on October 28.
