Indian mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been officially ruled out of the upcoming T20 International series against Afghanistan following an unexpected injury setback.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the decision, raising doubts over the 32-year-old's participation in the upcoming Asian Games.

Chakaravarthy sustained the injury during a high-intensity training drill, forcing the medical staff to intervene and prescribe an immediate break from competitive action.

According to the official communication from the BCCI, the mystery spinner will head directly to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to begin his rehabilitation program.

"Varun Chakaravarthy has been advised rest following an injury sustained during training and will be monitored closely by the BCCI medical team at the NCA," the board stated.

The unexpected absence of the right-arm spinner disrupts India's strategic setup, as the team management had envisioned utilizing his variation against Afghanistan's skilled batting lineup.

National selectors are now monitoring his recovery timeline closely, with his inclusion in the Asian Games squad contingent on a full fitness clearance from NCA physiotherapists over the coming weeks.
