BCB President Tamim Iqbal announced significant increases in match fees for domestic cricketers on Thursday, addressing concerns over potential earnings loss due to the postponement of this season’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The move comes as a relief to many players who were worried about their financial stability amid the uncertainty surrounding the BPL, which has been postponed indefinitely.

"We understand the concerns of the players, and we are committed to ensuring their financial security," Tamim Iqbal said during a press briefing in Dhaka. "These increases will help mitigate the impact of the BPL postponement on their earnings."

The exact figures for the fee hikes have not been disclosed, but Tamim Iqbal assured that the increases would be substantial and would benefit all levels of domestic cricket.

"We are working on the details and will finalize the amounts soon," he added. "Our goal is to make sure that our players are well-compensated for their efforts and contributions to the sport."

The decision has been welcomed by the cricket community, with many players and stakeholders expressing their gratitude to the BCB for taking proactive steps to support the players.

"This is a positive step and shows that the BCB is listening to the players' concerns," said a senior cricketer, who wished to remain anonymous. "We hope this will set a precedent for better player welfare in the future."
