Australian Umpire Ben Treloar Shares First Impressions of Indian Domestic Cricket
Australian umpire Ben Treloar explores Indian domestic cricket through the BCCI-Cricket Australia exchange programme, noting unique venue sights and local food.

Australian umpire Ben Treloar is experiencing Indian domestic cricket for the first time as part of the ongoing BCCI-Cricket Australia exchange programme. The 44-year-old official has been observing the unique conditions and infrastructure across various iconic venues in the country.
Reflecting on his time at Delhi's Palam ground, Treloar noted the distinct character of the venue. He observed that it is a smaller facility with limited surrounding infrastructure, accompanied by frequent overhead aircraft activity.
"Palam was great. It's obviously a smaller venue, and there isn't as much infrastructure around the ground. There were aeroplanes flying overhead, probably one every five minutes across the four days," Treloar shared.
Beyond the match action and pitch conditions, such as Mumbai's red-soil surface at BKC, the Australian official has developed a strong appreciation for local culinary offerings. He highlighted his enjoyment of traditional vegetarian dishes during his sojourn.
"I've been eating a lot of vegetarian food, and the dal, the quality of the breads, including roti and garlic butter naan, and the vegetable curries and vada pav have all been fantastic," he added.
