Long before modern power-hitters began shattering domestic batting records, Delhi cricket icon Raman Lamba etched his name into Indian cricket folklore with a gargantuan triple-century. His colossal knock of 320 in the Duleep Trophy final stands as one of the most remarkable achievements in the country's first-class hierarchy.

Lamba's magnum opus in the Duleep Trophy showcased an insatiable appetite for huge scores that few contemporaries could rival. Across a glittering career, the dynamic opener piled up two triple-centuries and amassed an astonishing 31 first-class hundreds.

Age proved to be no barrier for the prolific run-getter. Even in his late thirties, Lamba demonstrated peak physical endurance and technical mastery, orchestrating a monumental Ranji Trophy season at age 37 where he crossed the coveted 1,000-run milestone with 1,034 runs.

Although his international stints were restricted to 4 Tests and 32 One-Day Internationals for India, Lamba refused to let his passion wane. He embarked on a flourishing second stint in foreign domestic circuits, quickly emerging as a beloved hero in Dhaka's premier club cricket tournaments.

Cruel fate intervened in February 1998 during a Dhaka Premier Division match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. While fielding at short leg without a helmet for Abahani Limited, Lamba sustained a devastating blow to the head from a fiercely struck shot.

Despite immediate medical intervention, the injury proved fatal three days later. His tragic death at just 38 years of age sent shockwaves throughout Bangladesh and India, leaving the global cricket family mourning the loss of a truly devoted sportsman.

Decades after his untimely passing, Lamba's extraordinary milestones and infectious love for the game remain timeless reminders of a domestic titan whose story ended far too soon.
