Matt Renshaw produced a herculean 190 to power Australia to an unlikely first-innings total against South Africa. His remarkable knock single-handedly rescued the innings and laid a solid platform for the side.

The Middlesbrough-born batsman showed immense grit after a long wait, bringing up his epic century to put Australia on top. He received strong support from the lower order during the marathon effort.

Among the key partnerships, a record 134-run stand with Nathan Lyon completely shifted the momentum. Captain Cummins also contributed a vital 43 runs to further frustrate the opposition bowlers.

South Africa's bowling attack fought hard through Mulder, who claimed 4 for 68, and Jansen, who picked up 3 for 68, but they could not stop Australia from posting 390.

Armed with a competitive total, Josh Hazlewood immediately capitalized with the ball. He struck early in the innings to rattle the opposition and put Australia in control.
