Australia faced a severe test of resilience on the field as South Africa executed a stunning recovery during the second Test match. After stumbling to a shaky start at 110-6, the Proteas mounted a remarkable fightback to eventually declare their innings at 425-9.

The resistance was spearheaded by Temba Bavuma, who played an outstanding knock of 179 runs to anchor the rescue effort. His magnificent performance brought up his fifth Test century and single-handedly altered the momentum of the contest.

Bavuma found vital support from the lower order as Marco Jansen and Simon Harmer chipped in with crucial contributions. Jansen scored 85 runs, while Harmer added 82 runs to deeply frustrate the Australian bowling attack.

The massive partnership enabled the batting side to amass an incredible 315 runs from their sixth wicket alone. This substantial lower-order recovery put mounting pressure on the visitors who now trail 1-0 in the series.

In the process, Australian captain Pat Cummins registered an unwanted career record during a difficult day on the pitch. Australia finished the day at 3-1, looking to regroup after being caught off guard by the aggressive lower-order resistance.
