Sri Lanka women’s cricket team has suffered a significant setback ahead of the Asian Games, with experienced middle-order batter Nilakshika Silva ruled out of the tournament due to a finger injury.

Silva sustained the injury during a high-intensity training session, forcing the national selection committee to make last-minute alterations to their 15-member contingent.

To plug the void left by Silva, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed the inclusion of wicketkeeper-batter Anushka Sanjeewani, middle-order batter Hansima Karunaratne, and young seam bowler Rashmika Sewwandi.

Sanjeewani's return brings valuable international experience back into the setup, giving the team tactical versatility behind the stumps and an adept anchor in the middle overs.

Karunaratne adds much-needed depth to the batting department, while Sewwandi’s entry provides fresh pace options as Sri Lanka adapt their tactical balance for Asian conditions.

The Sri Lankan management expressed confidence that the updated squad retains sufficient fire-power and resilience to contend strongly for silverware in Hangzhou.
