Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal announced significant increases in match fees for domestic cricketers on Thursday, addressing concerns over potential earnings loss due to the postponement of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The move comes as a relief to many players who were worried about financial stability amid the uncertainty surrounding the BPL, which was postponed indefinitely due to various logistical and financial issues.

"We understand the challenges faced by our domestic players, and we are committed to ensuring their financial security," Tamim Iqbal said during a press briefing in Dhaka. "These increases will help them focus on their performance without the added stress of financial instability."

The new match fees will see a substantial rise, with top-tier players receiving a significant boost in their earnings. The exact figures have not been disclosed yet, but the BCB assured that the increases will be substantial enough to make a difference.

"We are also exploring other avenues to support our players, including potential sponsorships and additional tournaments," Tamim added. "Our goal is to create a sustainable environment for cricket in Bangladesh."

The decision has been welcomed by players and stakeholders in the cricket community, who see it as a positive step towards ensuring the well-being of domestic cricketers.
