Family Ties Bolster Bangladesh's Table Tennis Hopes at Asian Games
Bangladesh is sending a unique table tennis contingent to the Asian Games, featuring three relatives from the same family. Their intense training sessions signal a collective drive to elevate the nation's standing in regional table tennis.

Bangladesh's Asian Games table tennis contingent will carry a distinctive family signature to Japan, with three relatives set to lead the nation's charge on the international stage.
Shamanta Hossain Tushi, Sonom Sultana Soma, and Nowrin Sultana Mahi – all closely related – were observed in a rigorous training session this past Friday at the Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium, diligently honing their craft for the prestigious continental tournament.
This remarkable family narrative deepens further as Soma and Mahi are cousins to Tushi, establishing a unique familial presence. Adding another layer to the unit, Mohammad Ali, the team's coach, is also Soma's husband, and was seen providing strategic guidance to Mahi during the intense practice drills.
The upcoming Asian Games, scheduled to ignite Japan's arenas from September 19 to October 4, represent a crucial platform for the Bangladeshi paddlers.
Sonom Sultana Soma, a five-time national champion, brings a wealth of experience to the fold. She previously lauded the Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation's (BTTF) initiatives, noting that improved player payments over the last two years have significantly boosted motivation and performance levels across the board.
"The positive changes in player payments have truly motivated us to elevate our game," Soma commented, expressing palpable optimism for the sport's future in Bangladesh. "We believe this will foster sustained excellence."
The collective representation of Tushi, Soma, and Mahi at such a high-stakes event carries immense symbolic weight for Bangladesh table tennis. It underscores not just individual talent but the potential for enduring legacies within the sport, fueled by strong family bonds.
Their dedication on the training table, combined with the BTTF's commitment to development, signifies a concerted effort to enhance Bangladesh's standing and achieve greater recognition in the fiercely competitive Asian table tennis arena.
